Project info
Meierigården is a unique residential project located in Gol, Norway. Once an active part of the local dairy industry, this old industrial site is now being thoughtfully transformed into modern apartments — just steps away from shops, restaurants, and public transport. The project combines practical living with a strong emphasis on sustainability and smart reuse of existing structures. With 60% of the building materials reused and a 40% reduction in carbon emissions compared to a standard new build, Meierigården stands out as a model for eco-conscious architecture in the region. The development includes self-owned apartments with private storage, green communal areas, and modern features like EV charging and bike parking — all designed to support a high-quality, low-impact lifestyle.

Challenge
One of the main challenges was finding the right material balance. The design explored different wall and floor finishes, and the client wanted to see how each combination would look. Our goal was to visualise how these materials could elevate the feeling of comfort while respecting the raw structure of the original building. When working on the interiors, the client input was related to camera angles and lighting — the lighting had to be soft, natural, and with minimal artificial sources. It was important to show how warmth and liveability could be achieved within the preserved structure.

Collaboration
It was a pleasure to work with Meierigården Gol AS, and we truly appreciate the trust placed in us to visualize this transformation of a building with such a long and rich history.
